I'm running a new Hypertherm 45XP using CommandCNC looking for "modified with experience" tool tables for 14 and 16g sheet steel. I've been reading as much as I can from this forum, but hoping some experts might be able to help me get thru the learning curve faster.
Can't seem to get CommandCNC to respond to my fine cut questions, but I can see from the forum they are challenging. My typical problem is probe crashing using the book tables.

Excellent! thank you. Do you find yourself using the low speed or standard speeds for Fine Cut? What I read, is if you have a decent table, standard speeds are best?

Correct. Standard speeds are preferable. Low speeds work, but create more dross.

I think this is an apples and oranges thing when you are moving the probe down that is plunge speed, the cut speed and feed rate is cut speed.

Could also have to do with not zero-ing your Z, or setting the material as having a thickness. A touch off move in CommandCNC (or MACH using the Probe input) is rapid at full Z speed down UNTIL you reach the "slow-down zone" Its called Plunge Safety Clearance in SheetCAM ( Job Options), when it reaches that point its supposed to slow down to the touch off speed defined and gently touch off. Its done that way to not was a bunch of time doing a touch off from the rapid height . It the numbers are too small it often hits the material BEFORE the touch off even starts and you get an ugly screen message. If it really close you can get a bad touch off and that makes the resulting lift to pierce height wrong and the initial plunge to cut height wrong.
