How to do this edge/finish?

I have this gauge pod, it has a odd edge (i'm assuming to hold the gauges and hold the pod in place)
but what is odd is that it's only on half the edge. This piece is 16 or 18g thick.
Any ideas, thoughts? I'm guessing this was done after it was cut or unless this was something that can be done on a laser?

I imagine it could be done with a series of cursive "e"'s and an "online tool path"....im just thinking out loud

Could be drawn that way or just machine backlash. on a rough gear or something.

I have seen pictures of other ones from the same place so it's done on purpose.

Maybe a CNC punch press. Looks like a bunch of little nibbles mad to cut it out.

I'm with Plasma burn. Looks like cnc punch press to me. What is a gauge pod? Is it for auto type gauges?
