Cleaning Grates

Post by Metriccar »

Does cleaning grates do anything other than make for a nicer looking table? I spent maybe a good hour or so cleaning mine just now, but not sure if it serves any purpose. What could I expect if I never clean it?

What do you mean by cleaning?
Nothing serves any purpose than the top edge to support your steel. Make sure they are flat and you are good to go?

If you don't clean them for a long time(4 years) a lot of slag will stick to them and they will start to join up in places (TM style slats with about 65mm gap) while it does help with the slats not moving around it doesn't do so well with keeping material level.done mine about 5months ago took the apprentice about 4 hours (10x5 table)
