we used a piece of treated plywood for the backer and mounted the metal emblem to it.
i got the emblem off of the website.

What a nice project. What cutting system did you use to make this? Do you have any dxf or pcm or other file you would be willing to share? I would love to have our students make an emblem for the school also. We have a plasmacam cutting system we could use.
