I have on a Hypertherm 1000 with a handtorch at my job. They just did it because the compressor and lines are nasty and full of moister. They don't use it that often and went that route. I cant tell a difference.

Nitrogen was all I used with the old Linde plasma cutter I used YEARS ago in a mfg. facility. It cut ok but not as good as today's machines, but that'd hardly be a comparison. I love these new Hypertherms...so much, in fact, that I just ordered a new Powermax 30.

Spend the money on Hypertherm. I used to have a Longevity. It is a great machine for hand cutting but does not compare to my Hypertherm on the table. When I changed over it was nite and day difference.
