Fingerprints?

After grinding, polishing, texturing my metal pieces, I usually clean them with paint thinner. When color heating with an propane-oxy torch setup, fingerprints are showing up-have to regrind and start all over!
Is there a better way of cleaning the metal prior to heating?

When I do heat coloring I use a flap disc then go right to the heat. I use to wipe it down then noticed finger prints I stopped cleaning the work in between .

Till you grab something that is hot and the rubber melts to your hand.

if its that hot get the ov-glove .

Won't acetone work. I use that to clean allsorts - sticky gummy deposits, glue sometimes.

I've been in the autobody business for over 10 years. You can get a Wax and Grease remover, that will work good. Better yet for bare steel use laquer thinner. The best way is to use some type of spray then wipe off with a clean rag or paper towel then remove any lint with a tack rag.http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... rch=154279 Then do not touch. In the environment that we all work in your hands are almost never clean enough to touch bare steel prior to finishing, even if you just washed them.
