Hypertherm Powermax 45 "Nozzle" question

Post by rustyhook »

Hello,

I have searched thru some of the forum to try and find my answer but hav'nt found definitive answer.
I have a Hypertherm Powermax 45 plasma cutter with mechanized head (not hand held).

Is there such a thing as a fine cut nozzle for this machine and if so what is the part number?

Currently I am using nozzle # 220671 and I am under the impression this is the smallest or finest cut nozzle
available for this machine.

Thanks in advance

The only thing out there for a 45 is to run a 30 amp nozzle/electrode. But from what Ive read in Jim Colts post, the 45 cuts just about as fine of a cut as the 30 with the right speed and voltage settings. My understanding is there is a minimal gains to be had from the 30 unless your dealing with really thin metal.

There are cut charts in your Powermax45 operators manual for cutting with the 30 amp (Powermax30) consumables. These will allow slower speeds and a slightly narrower kerf on thin materials. Refer to your operators manual, it has good info!

These charts were cut and pasted from the manual.

Hello all:

So if I want to run the 30 amp consumables to cut the thinner material on my powermax45 I need to purchase the following;

220478 (electrode)
220480 ( nozzle)

do I also need to purchase 220483 (retaining cap) and (220479) swirl ring?

Looks like I need to run all 4 of these in order to do so...Please advise,

Thank you, John

Yes, you need all 4 parts since they're all different from the 45A parts.

Ilean is correct. You need all of the parts that are listed in your operators manual for use with the 30 amp parts....the picture I posted is copied from the operators manual. The one part you don't need is the deflector...that is for drag cutting.

Never mix consumable part numbers....either they will not fit together, or if they do, torch damage could be the result. Remember that a plasma torch produces a 25,000 degree arc.....if the internal flow physics are not correct that arc can do more than cut metal!
