Cut quality all over the place,Hypertherm 1000

Post by ronniep »

Hi all,I am very new to this so bear with me.I have just got a very slightly used plasmacam DHC table with a Hypertherm powermax 1000 and am having tons of cutting trouble.I cannot get to a happy medium of cutting.Im cutting 14 ga cold rolled.I get either lots of underside dross or it doesn't cut all the way through.my settings are 30-35 amps,75 psi,100ipm,.06 cut height, pierce height .1,the consumeables I'm using is 120925 swirl ring,120926 electrode,120928 retaining cap,220329 nozzle,120979 deflector.I guess it shouldn't be completely dross free but it's leaving a LOT,most times Thanks

Not much help, but the underside dross means yu have to speed up a little, and not cutting all the wat through is probably either to fast or tourch to high..

Have you done dry run test and stopped the tourch when it is lowered to cuttig height with feeler guages to ensure the .060.?

Most of hypertherm specs in the manual will get you right close to where ya need to be if ya don't have one you could probably down load one at Hypertherms web site.

https://www.hypertherm.com/en/Training_ ... /#powermax
Type dross into the search box above you will get lots of info.
If you could post a picture it would help.

Ronnie,

From the pictures you are clearly cutting at the incorrect power level and way too slow. The best advice.....open up your Powermax1000 operators manual to the mechanized torch cutting specs. Choose the 40 amp shielded consumables (exactly the same part numbers that the cut chart recommends) and set your pierce height, pierce delay, cut heightband cut speed exactly as the chart recommends. You will get a nice cut!.

If you don't have the operators manual....you can download one at www.hypertherm.com , click on download library at the top of the page, choose product type (powermax1000) then choose manuals, then operators manual. There are many pages of cut charts that are engineered to cut very well.

I would provide the parrt numbers and cut specs....but I am away from my desk today.

Try bumping up the amps to 42 and keep the same speed.
