Another Sharpie pen holder

Post by BrayD »

I wanted a pen holder to check a program tonight so I whipped this up with what I had laying around the shop.

3/4” .120 wall tube holds the sharpie beautifully.
The 3/4” nests into 1” .120 wall.
O ring sets the Z height of the pen.
Zip tie torch attachment.

The fit isn’t perfect, but it’ll suffice for identifying any glaring issues. Quick and easy to make, install, and remove. Thought I’d share in case it sparked some ideas for others.

BrayD - very nicely done and simple to make. That's a great design on your part!

There have been many different sharpie/pen holders made by members, all function well and show it is a tool you may want to have. here is one I made years ago to fit into the machine torch holder. Then latter I 3-D printed one to fit on the torch can either mount a sharpie or Ink Pen. Some have used the simple method of using a rubber band to hold the sharpie to a machine torch, what ever floats your boat. :HaHa :HaHa

These are all great ideas. I have a 3D printer and considered designing/printing one as well, but time was of the essence. The nesting tubes create a fantastic sliding interface and it's pretty accurate considering the interference fit with the pen and the length of engagement between the tubes. I'm a happy camper for now, but may end up making something more refined in the future.

Another tip worth mentioning is to draw on a clean sheet of metal rather than paper. I was having an issue where my interior features were 'cutting' offset from my external features. I drew this a handful of times on the same sheet. All it takes is a quick wipe with acetone to erase the marker.
