Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
I'm working on my latest fixture table. A 10' x 5' fab block , I have been wanting to build this table for sometime. It would be very beneficial if I could have a grid laid out with a ruler down x and Y axis. I build tube chassis and use Bend Tech Pro which requires pic points along x,y and z axis's. Something I normally do with a tape measure, marker and plumb bob. But it would be awesome to have grid lines and a ruler scribed down the x and Y axis where I can lay a straight edge from one side to the other on the corresponding ruler. My holes are on 2" centers .645 for clearance. I'm pretty new to Ink scape still. Thanks to Dave and some of the others here I'm gaining on getting the basics down. I have seen fab tables set up like this and it makes a huge difference when laying out a chassis. 1/8th increments with each each marked out on the ruler and 1" spacing on the lines would be fine .This will be the last table I plan to build and the one that I will build all my future chassis off of so I'm taking my time on it. The only piece I have left to cut is the top. See attached file.
Thanks

Re: Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
He's talking about something like this:
I think that would be very helpful and I wish I would have done that on mine.
I tried downloading your file but my PC is having problems so I couldn't see what you mean when you mentioned 1/8". Are you adding a ruler on the edge with 1/8" lines also? Marking the lines before you cut the holes? Laser? waterjet? Magdrill?
5x10...
holes on 2" centers...
1" grid lines...
Built in rulers…
That's gonna be a nice table!

Oh, okay. Yes, those engraved markings could be helpful I suppose.

Re: Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
Maybe something like this - if I am understanding you correctly. A grid over the entire table would be different than simply having the "rulers" engraved along the outer edges of the table. Or perhaps you want both?Fastyankee wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 10:38 pm It would be very beneficial if I could have a grid laid out with a ruler down x and Y axis.

Re: Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
So I figured out that Ink Scape has a ruler function which made it pretty simple to achieve what I wanted. I’m also doing a scribed grid pattern on one inch. I decided to do only a 1” grid which works out perfectly.
Thanks David

Re: Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
I assume you are planning to use an air scribe and not an EasyScriber. It would also be nice if you could do something like nitride/black oxide coating before you do your scribing for better visibility.Fastyankee wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 6:10 am So I figured out that Ink Scape has a ruler function which made it pretty simple to achieve what I wanted. Re: Laying out a ruler and grid lines for scribe
I’m looking at some way of dying the steel black .
I am using an air scribe on it . I just set my grid to 1” and snap to grid selected.
Took some time to lay it all out but it’s going to be very useful when laying out frames.
Thanks Dave
