Plasma Cam Cutting Motion Paused (This is annoying)

Post by skiwithnoskis »

While cutting the attached file the machine started acting funny

The part is cut from 3/4" steel

Settings
80 amps
22 imp
cut hieght .057
pierce .125/1sec delay
Hypertherm 1250
Air Compressor is 240volt on a separate circuit (60 gal 18cfm i think)

I believe the drawing is properly linked.
None of the puase buttons are checked

The machine may cut the entire part, or it may cut a few inches then i get the "Cutting motion paused" message
Does the plasmacam software monitor any conditions on the 1250 that may flucuate that would caused the machine to sparadically pause itself.

I have attached the file to be reviewed by the experts that reside here

Thanks

Brad

There are a lot of issues that could cause a pause in any cut. It could be issues with your drawing, with your cut path, or with some setups that you have made on the setup screens. It could also be an interlock in the plasma such as low pressure, torch parts in plkace sensor.....or it could be an electrical noise issue (ground rod, grounding, etc.)

If you provide more detail....we may be able to help.

1. Does it always pause in exactly the same spots?
2. Does the program pause if you are dry running through the part without the plasma on?
3. have you watched the fault indicator lights on the front of the plasma when this occurs?

The attached file is just a CAD drawing....I don't see any issues with it when I open it up with my PlasmaCam software. There are no cut paths on the drawing....so I cannot simulate what you are doing on my machine.

It sounds as though either you have an electrical noise issue.....or the plasma is shutting itself off. 99 out of 100 times it is an air pressure or air flow issue with the plasma if this is what is occuring.

Make sure you have adequated pressure at the rear air connector....and that the supply hose is a minimum of 3/8" ID...inlet pressure should be between 90 and 140 psi.

Turn the amperage know fully counter-clockwise (this gets the air flowing) then adjust the regulator to 70 psi.
