Very nice. I really like the way you gave attention to detail with the Feather Touch. Nice.
A note on the trays for the Igus . Why not just have a flat surface for it to run on. In all the shops I have been in that is how it is done. No tray to become a dirt, dust and debris collector. Just a thought. They do look nice even if a little snug.
How are things coming on your build? I am going to start one soon. All here who do good work have me inspired !
Keep up the good work.

Some updates. Made bracket for the cable carrier. Was kind of flimsy. Added a brace as well.

You can use a different Micro switch with a roller on it and it will act like a limit with a trip on both ends and as home too.
The way you mounted the switch on the moving assembly is the way to go. I did the with all 3 axis on my table and if yu are using Mach they can be daisy chained to one input.

Here is the way I wired my and it works fine.
Image of the limit and home pins in Mach.
type of switch shown on my Z axis with it's trips.
micro switch BZ-2RQ69 1PA4 there are other with rollers the roller will compress past where the switch trips and not break the switch.

I would not even buy a kit. I would build one from scratch. I know it is taking a long time but life gets in the way sometimes. Thanks.quadboy wrote:Wow nice table build would you ever do it again or would you buy one .

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
I concur I have built 4 and am accumulating parts for the 5th. I'm retired and I just enjoy building tools. I sold 2 and one for my daughter (router type) mine is a 4X4. I know it is not for everybody and that is clearly your choice to do either. My way of looking at is I can build more tools then I can afford and by building and saving I can afford the next level up on the tools I do buy.

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
OK. I think this is my 5th design of the X limit switches. I think I finally have it nailed down.
Also made different bracket for the Y stops. Oh and I got the roller style switches too.

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
I tig welded the 14 ga sheet to the 3/16" x 3" angle. I got to say what a nightmare. I took my time and jumped around for other areas to let cool. It warped bad now I am trying to combat this issue. I should have just got a shop to bend up some sjeett and I just weld the corners. Oh well. Off to making some stuff to pull it into shape.

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
On a better note aside from the warpage I now incorporated a switch to my breakaway set up. I want to wire it in line with the e-stop if that is at all possible. Acourtjester what do you think.
I had to get a little crafty on the mill. You can see the counter bored hole to clear the nut for the momentary pin switch. When the plates are sandwiched the switch circuit is closed. When the plates separate, i.e. torch breaks away the pin extends opening the circuit.

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
I have not updated this thread. Anyway. I have been cutting for a little while. I am still learning Inkscape and sheetcam as well as the Plasma console. I have been able to make some money already. Made a set of backhoe bucket ears for my Father's backhoe. I also have downloaded some files from plasma spider as well. Some of them are good. Others have so many layers and broken lines it takes me a long time to fix them. Hope to get better at doing this. Have this table has also brought me to the next level in fabricating and welding as well. Thanks plasmaspider people for all the help and ideas and continued support.

Here is a small vid of cutting 5/8" plate for the backhoe ears.

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
Excellent work, I’m trying to come up with a new floating Z for mine, I have used a 3d printed version but there seems to be some flex in it. Maybe the hypertherm cable is a bit heavy and giving me the small issues on circular cuts I’ve been having

Re: 4 x 8 Plasma Table build
Are you using a hand or machine torch?? I use a wire boom for the cable and have a loop above the Z axis for the cable to pass through. It can move up/down easily but on lateral movement when X and Y are active.

Using the machine torch, I’ve noticed some flex even just if I touch it. I’m going to have a good look at the weekend, a support is something I’ve thought about and also maybe something from the ceiling which is only 1m away as it’s in my garage under the houseacourtjester wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:45 pm Are you using a hand or machine torch??
