Laser that will cut .080" steel

Post by DieselFumes »

Curious if any of you guys with some of this lower cost lower powered laser experience have found a unit that will cut .080" steel. Doesn't need to cut a lot of it, I just want to notch 1.25" diameter .080" wall steel tubing from time to time.

If I could find a lower cost laser that would cut it I would try my hand at building a cnc rotary tube notching unit. Currently notching everything by hand which is fine for the amount I do but this is a project I would like to take on, just need a laser I can afford that will do it.

Small footprint lasers I've seen a few that are around 80k..
Here's a link to a manufacturer I've seen around.
Probably best to join a fiber laser group on facebook and watch the posts.

There are a few options that won't completely break the bank that will cut in that range.

So I checked out the links and see they are all complete machines, I was looking more for just the laser and I would build the rest. I just saw these smaller format laser modules folks are mounting to there tables more for engraving and stuff and was curious if they had something similar with enough power to cut .080" steel.

Cutting metal with a laser requires proper height control and assist gas. I'm sure it's not impossible to build something yourself but I dare say, without a lot of research, trial, and error, you're in for heartache.
