Homemade 40 ton press brake
Here is a 40 ton press brake that I built using my homemade cnc plasma cutter for use in my personal fab shop. Some specifications listed below:
• Adjustable hydraulic jack locations - jacks slide side-to-side for optimal positioning dependent on work piece width
• Spring compensated and adjustable gauge rods for consistent and accurate repeat bends. Compression springs prevent damage to the gauge system in the event that the stop point is exceeded
• Upper and lower bending dies built from cold rolled 1018 for a typically higher material hardness than the workpiece
• Adjustable width bottom die assembly using two 1.5 inch diameter cold rolled solid round rods
• Bending blade that can be cut into fingers to allow for box and pan bending operations. Ability to make custom dies that slide into the 3/4in tang slot
• Hydraulic jacks plumbed together for simultaneous operation but can also be operated individually for level adjustment
• Adaptable, adjustable, modular, and easily repairable design utilizing minimal welding of components onto the main frame

Very nice! It's a very rewarding feeling to be able to build tools and stuff you need yourself.

Yup that was my homemade pizza oven in one of the pics. I have a video showing the entire pizza design and fabrication process here:acourtjester wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 10:24 pm Sweet looks like someone will get getting a Pizza oven for Christmas
And a video for the press brake:

I say those look pretty good on your resume, if you wanted to get into metal fabrications some day.
Thanks for the share.

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
I dream of a press brake like that someday.
I dream of wood fired pizza pretty much everyday!
I’ve been toying around with the idea of making a pizza oven, how long does it take to bake a pizza in yours?

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
Excellent work on both press brake and oven!! Looks like you've got a great "hobby shop" going there. I built a smaller 20 ton press brake using the Swag Offroad kit, and it works great for my purposes- mainly brackets and such for automotive work. Thanks for sharing your work and videos.

That oven gets to over 1000F and can cook pizzas in less than 90 seconds

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
Can someone clarify for me please? Does two 20 ton jacks side by side really make 40 tons or is it 20 tons just evenly distributed?

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
Your answer is 40 ton total that is evenly distributed. if they were end to end it would be 20T only, Bends are rated in tons per foot off of the following chart:

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
So if a third jack was added it would be 60 ton?
I understand the chart for tonnage required and optimum die size.

Yes you can stack as many as you like if your frame work will handle it. With everyone wanting a CNC machine there is a lot of the older mechanical units out there that could be retrofitted with hydraulics.

Re: Homemade 40 ton press brake
I've been looking. I just didn't think the math worked that way so I passed on a 60ton not too long ago. I am leaning toward just building one with hydraulic cylinders anyway.SegoMan DeSigns wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:15 pm Yes you can stack as many as you like if your frame work will handle it. A power pack with solenoids and rams sure make stroke control a lot easier.

here is a post from the welding site showing a 40 ton press brake a member posted. lots of info shown in the post as it was built using a hydraulic cylinder and pump.
