Re: Plasma Pricing app...
This is a Windows issue - it stores support files in a folder called application data hidden away somewhere in documents and settings.
Try a search for a file called "MetalTypes.txt" I think you will find you have two copies of it.
Not much i can do about it but i did read somewhere that it can be turned off so it only stores things where they should be.
I still use XP and it stores files where i tell it

Do a search of your hard drive for the files stated above.
I can edit the units, materials, etc. but when I click on the edit material data files directly I get a different file than what the program shows.
I found out the program is storing the edited data in this location:
C:\Users\tnbnd\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Plasma Estimator V3
But the program files are located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Plasma Estimator V3
I have not found time to figure out how to have it just overwrite the original file

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Ok, that's where the info is at on my machine (Win7). Apparently, starting with Vista it was decided that programs don't write to the Program Data folder, but rather to the App Data folder. Shared access, multiple users, blah blah blah.tnbndr wrote:Motoguy:

I'm not sure how to force the program to write to the folder pointed at when the "edit material data files directly" button is pushed. For now, I'll just put a shortcut to the C:\Users\Owner\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Plasma Estimator V3 on my desktop, and click on it to directly edit metal info. Same place for labor, etc.

When I get a chance, I'll add a target path to the edit buttons so you can tell the app where your data is.
Should fix it.

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Done, it will tell you to go to setup, use the list on the lower right corner of the setup page, self explanatory
Hopefully that will enable the locations to be set where you want them now.

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Not a problem, you don't realise how insular your little world is until you start dealing with computer setups in the big outside world
Try the version on there now, I have radically altered the path choice method, you can now use the folder explorer list OR paste whatever path you want into the text box, press save and it will use that.
Make sure the path entered ends in the target folder not a file or "\" etc
Hopefully the new windows will allow copy paste of folder paths??

Dave:
I downloaded the new file and going through the file structure it still does not show all the folders as above. So I went through Windows Explorer and copied the path to the program, clicked save, closed the program and came back in.
When I click on the Edit Materials directly it still goes to the old file path and pulls up the original material list, in metric!!!

That is so annoying - windows is totally overriding what i am asking it to do then.
I am afraid I cannot fix this I think, windows has beaten me

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Not a big deal, I don't edit the files directly, so as long as the list is finding the materials file and cost files as I edit them it is fine.

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Agreed. I appreciate all you have done to bring this to life! It's a VERY useful tool, and I use it for my quotes. If this is the only hiccup with it, it's something I can live with! lol I'll simply create a shortcut to the appropriate folder, and edit that way.
Thanks again!
ETA: On my 64 bit Win7 machine, the "edit materials data file directly" button works fine. On my 32 bit machine (one I use as my table controller), it does not and I need to create the shortcuts.

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Would it be possible to have an option where the per-pierce price is tied to material selling price (per-inch)? In other words, per-pierce charge is the same as cut charge (per inch)?
And while I'm being picky...an option to round the charges up to 2 digits, vs 4? Ie, material selling price of .0277 becomes .03?
Both of these can be changed manually. Automation would be faster, and I'd be less likely to forget!
Thanks!

Ok, had a little play, I have altered the editing of the material data file, it's all done on the setup page now so no need to mess with finding files etc, try that out.
Will look at the suggestions above shortly

Re: Plasma Pricing app...
Thanks for the program! I downloaded it. Had some problems getting to unzip... but was able to get it to work. It does not seem to save the entered data (except material costs) such as labor rates, pierce costs etc. Any suggestions?
I am a few months into working with our Archlight plasma 4x8 table. Looking for a good resource like this to help price work better.
Thanks!
