Thoughts on this Sheetcam feature ??

Post by beefy »

I've just gave a feature suggestion on the Sheetcam forum:

http://www.forum.sheetcam.com/viewtopic ... 78f9#22285

Hi Les,

I can't beleive I haven't suggested this earlier.

Lots of times I've re-arranged the pierce point positions and order. Positions is easy because you can just click at the position you want.

However, the order of start points is not as easy. I have to right click on the start point, select properties, then type in the order in the dialog box. Very time consuming when I have a lot of this to do.

Would it be possible to add some extra functionality to the start point mouse clicking. For instance a button "Start Sequential Pierce Point Order" is clicked on. A box then pops up asking what number this Start Point is. Let's say it's 10 so we type that in and press enter. Now every mouse click not only positions the start point but automatically increments from 10. This would give a massive reduction in time for such an operation.

Of course the user would have to be careful he doesn't select one of the start point from 1-10 because in this case the ordering was started after Start Point 10.

To stop sequential start point ordering you just click again on "Start Sequential Pierce Point Order" or go to a different mode (Edit Contours, etc).

Thoughts ???

It has merit Keith. I didn't even know you could alter the order of the pierces, probably b/c as you describe, it's not intuitive when really it probably should be. I think this feature would be super helpful for others, especially people who create massive nestings. Being able to prioritize smaller pieces cut from the waste drops of bigger pieces all in one big job could get pretty tedious without this streamlined feature.

If I understand correctly, try this:

Select "Edit start points" at the top. You may have been there. Now right click anywhere on you drawing and look for "Quick cut sequence". That should bring up a small window set to 1 of the total amount of pierces. Here you can either start picking your sequence from the beginning or you can change that "1" to where ever you want to start changing the sequence from . When satisfied, right click on your drawing and select "End sequence".

I think your feature is already there.

Another useful one there as well Keith I didn't know about, being able to change lead in sizes for holes of different sizes in same operation though start points tool/right click/properties.
The times I have created a new layer for different sized holes !
Cheers

Ha ha, yep as Paul said it's already there. Just been to the Sheetcam forum and Les told me too.

Sean, I've been painstakingly doing things the hard way when the easy way was right under my nose, so don't feel too bad.

Yeah - As my good friend used to say: "We don't know what we don't know".

It doesn't hurt to bring up an idea.

I didnt know about the right click properties!!
I also found out, when you right click, there's an option called: Quick cut sequence
When selected, in the text box, input the start number, ex;10, and click on a start point. That point becomes #10.
the counter then automatically goes to 11, etc...

the ''quick cut sequence'' is handy for avoiding tip up collisions with the torch
sequence where the torch is headed next and put the pierce in that direction
this way if the part tips up, your already headed away from it
